If there is one thing my procrastination has taught me, it’s that working back-to-back on all visual art projects is incredibly draining for the mind. I take such frequent breaks from my work because I become bored drawing for so long. Then those breaks become more frequent, and it melts into pure procrastination.
Something that has helped me with this is listening to documentaries/stories/podcasts while I work. I’m pretty sure most everyone does the same, but still it’s worth mentioning how much these things can busy your mind while you work. Music doesn’t really offer any sustenance to my mind while I’m drawing, and I’m one to be constantly distracted by the song changing, anyway. While I only listen to a few podcasts, I’ll still share them here: This American Life It’s something different every week. Every episode has one theme that is explored in 3 different acts, through 3 different stories. There are 600+ episodes and they’re all deeply interesting. The Lets Read Podcast Scary, true stories! What more could you want. 2hr long episodes. What I typically devote my mind’s time to while I’m working are YouTube documentaries. There is so, so much to see on there for free. Since I'm incredibly interested in the art of human survival, most of the documentaries I watch consist of human hardship and perseverance: Mountaineering Documentaries
Titanic Documentaries Survival Documentaries Entire YouTube Documentary channels Scary Story Channels So here they are, for my own reference or not. I’ll come back and add to it whenever I watch/listen to something else of interest. :-)
