I've had a huge folder filled with online art reference for a while now, so I'll dump what I find here. I'd love to be able to have a convenient way of sharing references with people!
Animal Skull Photo Art Reference Search Mockupworld GraphicBurger Creative Market Mr. Mockup- Freebies The Language of the Flowers Sketchfab Dog Breed Chart Line of Action Will add more to this as I discover more! EDIT: Upon making this post, I have realized one of the world's greatest resources for animal references- Wildscreen Arkives- is no longer public. Wildscreen is a non-profit organization that, for years, has kept over 100,000 images of current and extinct wildlife on the internet for everyone to use, for free. Due to insufficient donations- only 85 of their 5.6M users made a contribution in 2018- they had to take down the Arkive and store it offline. This breaks my heart, and is a detriment for everyone. Please consider giving them a donation, and read more about them here.

Here is the process- from thumbnail sketch to finished artwork- for my piece, "Dinner." One of my favorites I have done, and one of my favorite methods to finish a piece. :'-) I like rendering in layers because I can look back on the build-up to the final piece. Here's an example of this using part of my header image; Cooper! There isn't much to it yet, but I've thrown some of my old keychains and pins up there. I plan to put more there eventually, as well! If you like raccoons, or are just in the market for a $10 keychain/pin, show me some love: If there is one thing my procrastination has taught me, it’s that working back-to-back on all visual art projects is incredibly draining for the mind. I take such frequent breaks from my work because I become bored drawing for so long. Then those breaks become more frequent, and it melts into pure procrastination.
Something that has helped me with this is listening to documentaries/stories/podcasts while I work. I’m pretty sure most everyone does the same, but still it’s worth mentioning how much these things can busy your mind while you work. Music doesn’t really offer any sustenance to my mind while I’m drawing, and I’m one to be constantly distracted by the song changing, anyway. While I only listen to a few podcasts, I’ll still share them here: This American Life It’s something different every week. Every episode has one theme that is explored in 3 different acts, through 3 different stories. There are 600+ episodes and they’re all deeply interesting. The Lets Read Podcast Scary, true stories! What more could you want. 2hr long episodes. What I typically devote my mind’s time to while I’m working are YouTube documentaries. There is so, so much to see on there for free. Since I'm incredibly interested in the art of human survival, most of the documentaries I watch consist of human hardship and perseverance: Mountaineering Documentaries
Titanic Documentaries Survival Documentaries Entire YouTube Documentary channels Scary Story Channels So here they are, for my own reference or not. I’ll come back and add to it whenever I watch/listen to something else of interest. :-) |
